Anita arrived on Monday afternoon to find the boat
rocking and rolling at the Catamaran Marina from the after effects of a
tropical low pressure called Olga. Had no real effect on us here in Antigua other than producing a lot of rain and winds in
the mid 20 knot range. Olga is now moving North West
and south of Cuba
and the weather here should settle down in the next couple of days. I hired a
car to collect Anita from the Airport which is about 45 minutes away and
outside the capital – St John.
We decided to kept he car for a couple of days and tour the island. Yesterday
we visited Jolly harbour, which is a development of expensive holiday homes and
a marina. Nice concept but as with many such in the islands has failed to be
completed and with the exception of the immediate Marina area is still a large building site. We
had brunch there and collected some spares from the marina shop then headed off
to St John
where there were three cruise ships alongside. Although the town was crowded
there didn’t seem that many passengers form the cruise ships but they may
have been spread around the island. In the evening we went over to Nelsons
Dockyard in English harbour and had a meal on the verandah of the old armory.
Will return there again to see it all in daylight. Today we will make a list of
any supplies we need and collect them from the supermarket at Jolly Harbour
in the hope that the weather will have settled down by Friday and we can start
heading south towards Bequia which Anita is keen to visit. We will stop at most
of the islands on the way, taking it in easy stages.
