Hello Sylvia Laxton. Well here we are in Smir which is on the Mediterranean
coast of Morocco. John has been here a week and working his socks of doing
routine maintenance. Anita arrived on Saturday and the pace of life has
slowed somewhat. John managed to complete two coats of varnish on the key
areas of the boat though had some bad luck with the last one when he got
caught by a rain shower just as he was finishing. A fair amount had to be
sanded back and re done. Ah well at least we have the protective coats on
for the winter. The boat looks pretty tidy though is in need of the hull
polishing. That can wait until she is ashore over the winter.
We are presently all ready to shift the boat from it "parking lot" across to
the departure lounge so that we are ready to leave in the morning. At
present its a bit windy for us to pull out of our parking spot without
bouncing off the adjacent boats - so - we are taking it easy and waiting for
the wind to drop. These tight mooring are a bit of a hassle with just the
two of us. It really needs three. But we are in no hurry and if we have to
wait until the morning so be it. We will head over to Gibraltar tomorrow and
are looking forward to have a look around. whether we can get a berth or
have to anchor is as yet unsure. Gibraltar marina's are a building site at
present as they are being converted into condos so space is very limited.
Anchoring is also a bit tricky as the airport runway lies right alongside
the anchorage or alternatively we have to anchor in Spanish water, Gibraltar
being so small. All gets very complicated and political. Last evening we
went out for a meal at a Moroccan restaurant and the food was great. Even
better we found Moroccan tea which is mint flavoured and absolutely
delicious. Anita is really chilled out and has started her first book. No
doubt she will turn to the crossword book in due course.
