"Notes from a Small Boat still Alongside" - after the appalling weather on
Wednesday the sun came out yesterday morning to herald a beautiful day. The
Patel/Bowering Clan set off early to go whale watching - a great success
with lots of Whales & Bottlenose Dolphins, and not a seasickness pill in
sight on either Kuki or Aku! The Corbett Clan meanwhile headed off to look
around the Island again, this time the Caldiera was in bright sunshine, and
it was an impressive sight.
This morning saw the departure of the 3 Patel women, and it has to be stated
that the general noise level around Horta has decreased by a considerable
amount.
Today was designated another work day on Osprey, completing the final
preparations for our departure - which is either going to be Sun or Mon
morning depending on the weather. So whilst Charles headed off to procure
the final supplies John began work on the Main Sail Leach Line, which had
been caught by the stitching so required a bit of sewing. With this
complete John proceeded to add tell-tails to the Main Sail. All the while
Charles was stowing all the food, sorting out the fridge & freezer and
generally getting below decks ready. Charles then moved onto removing the
rust on the turnbuckles, and the starboard bow as well as numerous other
places that John kept finding just as Charles was finishing with a comment
like "while you are at it can you just....." John meanwhile was attaching a
hank onto the extra sail bag for the StaySail/Spinnaker for use while
stowing these are on the foredeck. There were a multitude of other minor
jobs completed including oil levels, attachment of Weatherside Dodger (which
of course we have had to move from Starboard to Port due to the expected
wind direction!!!!! - hope springs eternal)
Mid Afternoon saw the arrival of vital supplies - should I say, Charles's
parents turned up with ice creams which went down extremely well. Now with
the only jobs remaining being those that cannot be completed till the
morning of departure John & Charles are looking forward to a relaxing
Saturday.
