Tuesday 25th July

Today we sailed from Booth Bay to Rockland, setting off at six thirty; it
was really fun but very hot at the same time. Our Skipper, John, predicted
we would arrive tomorrow at lunchtime but we arrived today at 3:30. We
were very early which was great! Unfortunately we didn?t see any creatures
in the ocean. We all did a two hour shift apart from Anish and I, we did
one and a half hours because John changed the timings when we did it. I
enjoyed doing my shift because it was my second time to drive the boat and
I had finally got the hang of driving the boat, also Ani had learnt to
drive for the first time as well. We were happy that we had arrived at
Rockland so early but it took forty five minutes to moore the boat which
was annoying! Finally we moored the boat but unfortunately I threw the
rope in the water when I tried to throw it to Anish. When we were sitting
in the boat I started to get a bit home sick so we rung home and had a
chat, then I was fine. Going back to the trip we had 3 sails up for the
first time, however the wind wasn?t in our favour and soon after we had to
bring down the sails and then motor. On the VHF emergency channel we heard
a mayday from a 23 ft boat that had its ropes caught on a whale which was
bigger than the boat and the whale dragged the boat and couldn?t get
untangled.
When we arrived to Rockland we went to see the shops and see
the different restaurants and shops to go to tomorrow, but
they were all closed and instead of shops there were mainly
art galleries. We went back to the boat to get Ani and John
before we set out again to an Italian restaurant. The dinner
was lovely but the huge American sizes stuffed us all, and in
the end only Anish ended up getting a dessert. We returned to
the boat where we played some cards and had an early night.
