Thursday 20th July

We were woken up at 6 o?clock today so that we could move the boat back on
to the quay from buoy number 1644 in Casco Bay, Portland. Ria and I, ?the
lazy ones?, were sent out in the RIB to the shore so that we could moor
the boat and the rest of the crew were left aboard. When we were safely
secured, we all went to have showers except for Captain John Bowering who
was left to look after the boat. Upon returning, we all had Lucky Charms
for breakfast and were set tasks for the day. I had to take Aisha and Ani
to the market in the RIB to get some washing up powder and then returned
to find out that I would have to clean the whole outside of the boat for 2
hours. The boat was covered in from yesterday?s sailing and all this
needed to be cleaned off before it formed blisters. While I was doing
this, Ria and Rishi were cleaning the windows on the boat and shining up
all the stainless steel and Captain John was fixing the engine with 2
engineers. After all the cleaning was done, Aisha and Ani returned from a
hard day?s shopping and so we all had a break. Ani then went to do our
laundry while Aisha and Rishi bought large ice blocks for the freezer and
Ria and I finished off cleaning the boat. When everyone was back, we
realised that we were moored right next to the famous Bruce Schwab. For
anyone who doesn?t know who this man is, he was the first American to sail
solo around the world. For more information visit his website at
www.bruceschwab.org or www.oceanplanet.org. He gave us a guided tour of
his racing yacht including the carbon-fibre toilet. It was an awesome boat
although it looked like a lot of hard work to sail. We then waited an hour
or so to watch him leave the marina in his yacht, an anticlimax to say the
least. Ani was now desperate for a strong drink so we left John behind in
the engine room and went for lunch in town at the Lobster Roll. I had an
American fish and chips and the other four had various different wraps. Of
course, Aish Rishi and Ria each left half their meals so we took them away
in a doggy bag for John. On the way back, we left Ani and went to the
cinema to see Pirates of the Caribbean ? Dead Man?s Chest. This took up 3
hours of the day after filling ourselves with popcorn and sweets, we
reported back to Ani and John with a small popcorn at 6pm. We then moved
the boat back to buoy 1644 for the night as there was a small hurricane
due to hit us in the morning and it was safer to stay here for the night
than attached to the quay. Ani made pasta for dinner and we then played
cards and went to bed, waiting for the storm to hit us early the next
morning.
