Be Prepared

Wind Charger

We have slept walked through the day casually working our way through the
list of jobs while the sun has shone down and we have been kept at just the
right temperature by the West Indian wind. We stayed completely serene for
our potter over to get fuel after a soporific lunch. Bob quietly and
politely waited at least 5 minutes while being completely ignored by the boys on
the dock before realising that they were actually repairmen and not the
fuellers. When he tracked down said fuellers they declared that they
wouldn’t be coming out for at least 30 minutes because they were doing a stock
check so we calmly pottered along the dock to admire the pirate ships and
sauntered back hoping they might appear at their convenience. They
did. The trip to the big supermarket across the lagoon for the big
shop went well with a quite astoundingly well behaved Bob staying very cool
throughout and not actually chipping in with his usual remark “don’t forget we
have to carry all this” until we had actually reached the checkout. The
only problem was that in the serenity of the occasion we dreamily forgot one
vital bit of victualling namely the tonic water. Fortunately remedied with
a trip to the local tiny shop, between checking out at Customs, visiting the
chandlery (a trip a day keeps Bob’s addiction at bay) and visiting the lovely
Samantha. (Bob was as unhappy about Samantha’s new hairstyle as he is my
very short back and sides that Heather the hairdresser has deemed appropriate
for a trip to tropical climes). Bob has been fiddling with things
contentedly, filled us with water, the kindles are charged and fuelled with
books, and he has deemed the engine neat and tidy and ready to go. We are
therefore now settling down to a smooth and simple gin and tonic, the first of
the trip, and looking forward to setting off tomorrow morning heading for
Martinique. We will be performing sea trials as we head North so fingers
crossed for that very first spin with Gerry. |
