After 9 months in Denia marina, including several lengthy visits for various
maintenance and upgrades, Spelllbinder finally broke free on Saturday 2nd
May. After a cloudy and windy day on the Friday, Saturday was cloudless and
sunny, with a moderate north westerly breeze. We were away from the marina by
0700, and after an initial couple of hours motor sailing there was enough
breeze for us to set the genneker and shut down the engine.2 1/2 hours of
lovely sailing, before the wind eased and it was back to motor sailing. But
after 45 minutes the wind picked up, ahead of the beam, and we were able to
shut the engine down again, and reach along under main and genoa. This took
us all the rest of the way to Ibiza, where we made our way along the south
side of the island to anchor in the Ensanada de la Canal at 1830, having
covered 59 miles in perfect conditions for a first day out.
Only a couple of other boats in the bay, so we enjoyed sundowners in the
warm evening sun, before supper and an early bed.
Today, Sunday 3rd May, is Spellbinder's 3rd birthday. A 20 mile trip is
planned to Cala San Vicente, a small bay in the north east corner of the
island, followed by a bottle of fizz to mark the occasion.
