We left Almerimar as planned last Wednesday afternoon, and had to motor as
the wind was right on the nose, still a bit of a lumpy sea but we had some
current in our favour, so made steady progress. A brief attempt at motor
sailing around 4 am, but it was not until 5 pm on Thursday thay we had a
southerly breeze that allowed us to shut the engine down and enjoy a bit of
sailing. By this time we were well on towards Moraira, and so were able to
ghost along until about 2 in the morning, when the wind died completely, so
down mainsail, and we completed the trip under engine, coming to anchor in
the bay outside Moraira marina just before 8am. Soon in touch with Phil and
Gill, who were watching our progress from the shore, and they managed to
wheedle a berth for us in the marina, so we were in and alongside by 0915.
Greeted with a bottle of bubbly, and lovely strawberry and melon just in
case we had been threatened by scurvy on our long trip. Very jolly
breakfast, and then we loaded a few things into their car, and back to the
villa for a lovely day relaxing by the pool.Saturday and Sunday similarly
spent, enjoying the blessings of the land.
On Monday, Phil embarked to sail round to Denia with Henry, while Martin
went round in the car with Gill to form a reception party at Denia
marina. They enjoyed a good sail in a freshening sea breeze, and after
topping up the fuel Spellbinder was soon secured in her berth. Here she will
stay until next spring, with a lift out planned for October to catch up with
the underwater maintenance necessary after over 15 months afloat.
One or two photos still to put on the blog once we can find access to wifi,
otherwise we bid farewell to all our faithful readers until the next
adventure starts in 2009.
