Ashore Saturday morning at Locmaria in search of coffee and croissants. As we stood outside the Maison Ivre cafe, a lady leaned out of the upstairs window and offered to open for us. A delightful Liverpool lady called Rowena Clarke who had been on the island 20 years, and made fantastic puppet figures, and excellent paintings which adorned the walls. After coffee we went to a little boulangerie for bread and croissants. Finally set sail after 1200 in very light wind. After a while, noticed a tapping sound on the hull. Stopped and discovered a small fishing float that was making the noise, attached to a long nylon line that was apparently wrapped around the keel. Could not dislodge it, so secured the ends and sailed on to Sauzon on Belle Isle. There we launched the dinghy, and eventually managed to cut the line free.
Sailed from Sauzon on Sunday morning, after a trip ashore for provisions.Beating against a force 3 easterly, we managed an enjoyable 3 1/2 hour sail to Ile Houat, picking up a visitors buoy off the little port of St Gildas.Late lunch, and then a visit by a French customs launch to inspect our papers, before a lovely evening walk on the island, a beautiful spot with magnificent sandy bays.
