Henry arrived back on Wednesday morning, after a 4 am start from Gatwick, and Bunny appeared in the afternoon from Ireland. Once all were settled in, we enjoyed a fine dinner in Lagos courtesy of Bunny. The next morning we had a major supermarket stores trip before returning the hire car, and then set off to find a European standard phone for Bunny, Excellent deal secured from Vodafone. The afternoon was spent in sorting out stowage for all the extra stores being embarked plus a visit from an engineer to reolve some questions about the watermaker, which will be an important piece of equipment for the next 6 or 9 months.
Friday was more preparations, shopping and stowing, followed by a last supper -all you can eat grilled sardines for 7 euros a portion. We will miss Portugal.
Saturday morning we made a trip to an excellent market, full of local fruit and veg, and live chickens which we decided was a step too far. Back to the favourite baker and butcher, after which we decided we could make it to Madeira without serious risk of starvation, Beer and wine previously topped up from the supermarket, So there was nothing else for it but to set off, and off we went at noon. Sailed 15 miles back to the anchorage at Sagres which we had visited over 2 weeks ago, both to allow a gentle introduction to Spellbinder for Bunny, and also to give us clean enough seawater for a test run of the watermaker. After anchoring we had a succesful run of the watermaker, so all is now set for our departure in the morning. The forecast is north or north easterly winds, very favourable, so with about 450 miles to Porto Santo we should be there in about 4 days.
