Thursday 7th May - As of midnight day-14 we were at position 7:28.66S 116:42.28W

The entire day we have been mocking with the wind behind us on a broad reach. I did not reef in at all as the winds rose up into the high 20’s instead Silky surfed along the huge sweeping rollers that continually picked her up and did what ever they pleased to her.

It is quite amazing how small you actually feel out in this huge expanse of sea. I know that there must be other boats out here however the chances of seeing one are extremely remote. Before leaving Panama I installed an AIS radar which is an Automatic Identification System that will alert me when a ship is in the area. It is a lot more power efficient than a radar and it tells you the closet point of contact you will make with and transmitting target. Leaving Panama city I had in excess of 100 ships on screen, traveling to the Galapagos Islands I sore a total of 2 ships come up on the display however I was not able to make a visual sighting. On this passage to the Marquises I have not seen a thing and really do not expect to see something. It is always good to know though that if a big ship was steaming down on little Silky I would be alerted by its built in alarm.
