Day 274 - Galapagos - Marquesas, Passage - Day 1
We pulled up our anchor Friday 24th of
April, 2009 at 11:32 am and headed for The wind in the entire region around the Galapagos it pretty
much non excitant as they lie in the ITCZ which stands for Inter Tropical Convergence
Zone or Doldrums. All this means is that we set off with our tanks full of
diesel and the motor running. The route I had planned will take us down to
about 5 degrees south, 95 degrees west where I hope to pick up the trade winds,
mind you this is about 400 miles away can you believe it. From here I will set
my course almost due West for a further 2600 miles. The wonderful thing about this long leg is that we will have
at least 1 knot of current pushing us along for the entire journey. We have stocked the boat with plenty of food, beer, wine and
water so should be OK on that front. All we need to do now is fill up our freezer
with Fish. Day 274 Destination – Average Speed – 4.8 Total distance – 67.5 Nautical Miles Travel Time – 12h28’ |
