We slipped our ropes from our mooring 9th November at 08:54 and headed for Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, Canary Islands 28:07.86N 15:25.58W

Finally I caught a tuna, well actually I landed 2 on the way to Las Palmas

When we arrived we anchored in a bay amongst a hundred other boats and relaxed for a little bit but once again the boat needed more work. The next day I went to the chanderlery and ordered my brand new marine toilet. This had been the best thing I have ever done. The septic side of the toilet is separate to the water intake so it stays clean; it is quite and easy to use.

I do not know how Fi and I manage to do it but we went to the ARC welcoming party and partied all night long. As you can imagine we were the only crew that were not part of the ARC. Classic, I even have the T-Shirt.

Special comments by Fiona:  A long day cruising to get to the next island of Gran Canaria and the port of Las Palmas.  The sun was out and so was Ben’s fishing rod.  He makes me laugh because the moment we slip our ropes and before we are even out of our anchorage/marina his rods are in.  This time however was a brilliant day fishing as Ben reeled in a huge tuna.  I played a key role in assisting reeling it in by getting the fishing bag with all the accessories and fishing equipment you can imagine, oh and also my job is too make sure the camera is on hand ready to snap away.  You can imagine how happy and proud Ben is when the fish is finally on board and he is smiling broadly for the camera.

We got to our anchorage in Las Palmas in the dark.  I was happy to reach Las Palmas (the starting place of the ARC) as there were hundreds of other boats around all preparing to do exactly what we are doing.  Apart from the 225 boats that enter the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) I’m told there are approximately another 800 boats that cross the Atlantic at this time every year, so it’s reassuring to know that we aren’t the only crazy people doing this!!!

Our stay in Las Palmas was spent once again preparing for the up and coming crossing.  We met up again with many other friends we’d met along the way and were fortunate enough to be invited to the ARC welcoming party by our English mate Tony.  I had a ball, spending the night dancing and meeting lots of other crazy people Caribbean bound!
