Midnight we had made it as far as 17:46.74N 37:15.81W – Wednesday 10th of December, 2008.

Engine Time – 6.08 Hours - The last of the becalming

We ran the engine through the night, until about 3AM when the wind picked up.  I quickly set sail, cut the engine and relaxed only to once again be becalmed about 1 hour later. Anyhow it was about 6 AM when the wind did start and start it did.  Finally we made a 5 Knot average. When we have the engine ticking over to keep us going or to top up the batteries we only travel at about 3.5 Knots so wind is always the preferred mode of propellerment. Considering this we had a great day on the water.

I caught another massive fish, and another Dolphin fish however this one really put up a good fight, until I had him in my clutches. I used all of his fresh flesh to make Ceviche, a Mexican dish which consist’s of fish, lemon juice, onion, green pepper corns, capers, olives, fresh coriander, salt & pepper. All you do is throw it all in a container together, the fish raw of course and the lemon cooks it. Once you are happy with the texture add a little olive oil to stop the cooking process and you have the most amazing dish ever. It lasts for several days without refrigeration also and is a welcomed treat during our evenings sundowner’s.

It is actually quite amazing what Fi and I have in our food stock that we cook with each day. It is far from the camping experience where you may open a tin. Of course we have tins and hundreds of them but each day we plan carefully what and when we will eat, going through our fresh produce first to see if anything is beginning to turn and then through our refrigerated food. Anyhow this can take several hours and some times I wonder where the day has gotten to by the time we sit down for our evening meal.

Special comments by Fiona:  We still have beautiful conditions, making the day’s and nights pleasant and enabling us to move around the cabin freely.  Another huge fish caught, that’s one every day so far.  Ben is in heaven!  He certainly out does himself with the way he prepares the catch of the day.  But I’m wondering how much longer I can live on fish for breakfast, lunch and dinner!!!
