Ben Shute & Fiona Kennelly
Sun 14 Dec 2008 19:39

Midnight we had made it as far as 16:56.15N 45:30.19W – Sunday 14th of December, 2008.

Engine Time – 0 Hours

Through out the night the swell just kept getting bigger and the wind increased until once again I had a couple of windsurfer sized sails out. It was not a good sleep but we managed to get a few winks in to wake up to our half way mark in a huge rolly and lumpy sea. I knew this would cheer Fiona up as I had been holding back on opening a box of Chocolates and all I had heard for the last week was ‘Can I have a chocolate, Can I have a chocolate’. I promised her at half way she could eat as many as she liked.

It did not take long to settle the boat as the wind had passed and the swell was beginning to roll on in from one consistent direction. IT is actually quite amazing how quickly the swell will increase and then decrease all with in a few hours. To celebrate both half way and making it through the night Fiona and I decided the theme for the day would be Italian and so we made pizza, not any pizza, Aussie pizza, Egg, Bacon, Onion and Cheese and it was amazing, just the treat I had been craving. To top it off as you do at a party we cracked open our finest red wine, be it in a carton it was still great and we celebrated the great fun we have been having listening to Italian classical music. Don’t ask where this came from.

Special comments by Fiona:  We made it half way!!! Woo-hoo.  Although it already feels like we’ve been at sea for way longer.   I’d spoken to other cruises prior to our departure and they all said you must have a half way party, something to look forward to and to celebrate your progress.  We decided to make our own pizza, washed down with red wine and celebrated our milestone throughout the afternoon.  Only 1046 nautical miles to go, that’s 1937km…….geez!
