Day 36 - Cedeira

Silk Sheets
Ben Shute & Fiona Kennelly
Sun 31 Aug 2008 16:16

We were woken about lunchtime by the phone Tuesday 25th August in our safe harbor of Cederia 43:39.27N 8:03.96W

One of my bestest friends from my beloved Melbourne, who lives in my beloved Spain called to say he was on his way to meet Fiona & I which was great news.  We got up after 3 hours sleep and cleaned the mess we left the boat in. We were actually still pretty out there after coming through the storm from the night before.

We dropped the dinghy into the water and went straight to town funnily enough we ended up in a small pub eating tapas and drinking beer. How could you not at €1 a glass, you would be crazy not to. Next on to the supermacado where we purchased enough food and drink to last us what we thought would be a few day’s. But you have to be dreaming with Alex on board the guy is a machine. I thought I had a drinking problem until this. It is not a bad thing at all, in fact it is really good because he makes me look good. He is uglier, fatter and farts more so I think Fiona’s now knows she has landed herself a true gentleman.

It was a lovely day once again, an almost stupid thing to write because it is always nice. Having the luxury of a friend with wheels, we all headed off into the interior of Galicia on the look out for old women wearing aprons with large hands and a restaurant that serves the famous Galician soup combined with a menu del dia. It did not take long until we were all eating and drinking the local produce in a small restaurant we found on the side of the road. Fantastic once again is all I can say as much as it was out of our normal budget it did only cost about €15 each we were all stuffed as a fat ladies shoe. After a café cutahio ( A strong shot of coffee with bandy) to finish the meal off we got up and left.

Now on the hunt for some surf we were once again on a beautiful beach this time gearing up for a surf. Surfing is something I grew up doing every week end, holiday and any other excuse, so I was definitely up for it now, but it had been about 6 years since my last crack at it but as they say it is like riding a bike. I had just downed a few beers, a large glass of wine and a couple of brandy’s so why not. Out we paddled far enough to get behind the local crew for the two of us to show the pore lads how to smack the lip of their own home break.  If only the girls could of got off a few snaps of me carving up the place for the blog.

I had surfed my guts out I was pretty much Fu%$£. It had been some time as previously mentioned that I had been surf fit so I was pretty tired. I managed to squeeze myself out of the sexy skin tight top Alex lent me somehow and crawled into the back of his van to be driven home via the supermarket once again for more provisions.

It was fairly nerve racking as we motored back to the bay only to see huge amount of white caps filling the place knowing that there was no-body on board Silky. After all I had left her anchored out all day with out anyone aboard. Something we had never even contemplated before. She had on not moved an inch through out the day and relived as I was to see her sitting in the same place I guess you could compare my relief to a mother being reunited with a lost child if that makes any sense. Maybe it doesn’t but after all it is after 5 pm and we are all drinking again…..

I think you can see from the pictures what we have been up to and I hope they at enjoyable.

FYI - Alexander Clifford Woodzell Berry and I have been friend since we were both 13 years old.  He grew up in Balwyn and I in Mont Albert North about 15 minutes in a BMX away. The main attraction for the two of us was to hang out and imagine we were both legendary guitarists, both of us now believe that neither of us new our assholes from our elbows but somehow remained friends. His beautiful wife Yolanda is from Barcelona, probably my favorite city in all of Europe. Yolanda in my opinion is a hippy and from the pics you will see she has been trying to corrupt my Fiona to make beaded jewelry and generally be a hippy. Next the two of them will be walking round with dread locks and no clothes on.

Special comments by Fiona:  How happy am I to have another chick on board!  I met Bez and Yoli at their wedding in Formenterra last June and had a ball.  Having the both of them on board has been a lot of fun.  Yolanda has so far being teaching me Spanish, how to make jewellery, Spanish cooking lessons and generally how to be a hippy – I’m loving it!  While Bez is providing non stop entertainment as you can see from the photo’s!
