It is now "High Season" so finding a berth anywhere in the Balearics is
very
difficult and we were fortunate to be able use a mooring buoy in Mahon
Harbour for our stay in Minorca. We really enjoyed our 2 days and had a very
relaxing time, just swimming, shopping, BBQs etc.
We left on 3rd July bound for Sardinia 250 miles to the east. We managed to
sail for most of the first 12 hours but then were forced to motor all the
next day because the wind disappeared. However, a flat sea has its
compensations and were able to have a swim and then try our hand at fishing.
Terry managed to catch 3 tuna, all of which were just too big to get on
board and were released. We then had our greatest whale experience so far on
this trip. After our swim, about 500 metres away, we saw a pod of whales
which were breaching, throwing most of their body right out of the water. We
ended up very close to them and could even hear them breathing: a big blow
out followed by a deep resonant inhale ... certainly a " wow factor" which
lasted for over half an hour.
We arrived safely in Caglari harbour Sardinia safely at lunchtime on
Wednesday. We now plan for a stopover of a couple of days for rather mundane
tasks like shopping, laundry and boat cleaning while we wait for the right
winds to allow us to continue eastwards towards Sicily.
