We really loved having Helen and Andy on board and it was a rather tearful
farewell at Lanzarote airport; however, Jenny and Andy arrived promptly
to ease the sadness.
Like Helen, Jenny came laden down with Christmas gifts as well as spare
parts for the boat and the bikes.
After a very pleasant day off at Rubicon Marina, we set sail for Puerto
Castillo on Fuertaventura and then continued on to Morrow Jable.
Unfortunately the winds really picked up and we were forced to spend
another unscheduled day there in a harbour miles from anywhere with very
little to do; we were even concerned that Jenny and Andy might even have to
take the ferry back to Gran Canaria to catch their flight home. However,
we decided to go for it on Sunday morning, even though the winds were
still Force 7, but they were right behind us and were forecast to decrease.
Needless to say we ended up motoring into Las Palmas harbour in
almost a flat calm. Our last day was spent shopping and we enjoyed a final
nice lunch together.
We both had really looked forward to seeing the girls, but no sooner had
they arrived, than it was time for them to go home; we were very flat after
Jenny and Andy went home. The marina was pretty full with well over half
the ARC fleet already in position. We had lots to do to get the boat ready
for the safety inspection and there are many lectures and social events to
attend and so we were soon in a much more positive frame of mind.
We now have about half our provisions stored on board and we will have
completed our preparations by the time Bob and Eric join us next week
ready for the start on Sunday 26th November.
