inaccurate at worst. I've heard this from friends visiting Jamaica and other
Caribbean Islands.
I have recently read an article by him regarding cruising Haiti, informing
us that fear prevents cruisers for visiting this island. Unfortunately this
fear is often brought about by people like Frank Virgintino who have never
toured the area but have listened to rumours spread by others who haven't.
Frank Virgintino for example in another article advised cruisers to stay 50
miles north of Venezuela coast and offshore islands because of the risk of
attacks. He has never cruised there so where has he got this misinformation.
As a result of this type of article people do fear Venezuela, yet they do
not worry about cruising the Windward Islands which is far more dangerous
although the risk is slight.
Like Haiti, there are places and areas to avoid in Venezuela, but the
western coastline and the offshore islands are not to be missed, Venezuela
is as the Caribbean was maybe 50 years ago prior to being spoilt by tourism
and crowded anchorages. Enjoy Venezuela and take the same precautions you
would when visiting Haiti and other Caribbean Islands.
