We have decided to take a sail to Isla Margarita, we'll spend the night in
Cumana before crossing over to the Island, no need to do it in one hit. The
shopping in Margarita is good, something that is lacking in the part of
Venezuela we are in now. The forecast was cloudy today but it turns out to be
raining aswell, we don't do rain, so we're hanging around waiting for it to
stop. It's only 4 hours or so to Cumana, if we can get away by 0800 or 0900hrs
we get in at a comfortable time.
Isla Margarita is duty free, so not only don't we pay IVA some of the
import duty is removed too, so there can be bargains.
It'll be interesting to see how many boats are in Porlamar, rumour has it
there are many more than previous weeks. It's always been a popular place for a
hurricane season hangout, consequently you get to meet more cruisers and catch
up with old friends too. Nevertheless, the Golf of Cariaco is a much nicer
hangout, shopping aside, the local people are friendlier, more natural, less
accustomed to foreigners. The anchorage is huge and is only one of many. No
worries about safety, locking dingies etc. Also you have opportunites to daysail
to many other places within the Golf and either anchor there or return to
Medregal anchorage. No worries about losing your spot, there is so much
room.
We'll stay in
Margarita for a few days, maybe we'll
bump into (not literally) a few readers of this blog. All for
now
