We've been anchored off
Pigeon Island for a couple of days with some friends nearby. The first picture
is from near the top of the point by an old fort used by Admiral Rodney in the
18th century during his conquest of the Island. It's not really an island
anymore, an artificial causeway has been built linking it to the main land. It's
a beautiful area landscaped parks and well looked after with BBQ's showers and
wc blocks dotted around the area near the beaches. You can see Chaser through
the trees (centre) we've been there for a couple of days, though we have just
come into Rodney Bay anchorage, so we can go into the Fed ex office to see if
our watermaker pump has arrive back. (It hasn't)
As you can see the
snorkeling is good around here, with a picture of a snake eel and a
lesserspottedboxyfishamus is the Latin term for the other one! No
mongooses.
Last time we were
snorkeling with our friends on Tony and Chris on Waylander, Tony was under a
cliff snorkeling when he was hit on the head by a large object. Cursing and
burbling four letter words through his snorkel, thinking it was a tourist boat
alongside. He look up to find all aboard laughing, a Mongoose had fallen from
the cliff top and landed on Tony's head. Tony survived ok, couldn't say the same
for the Mongoose.
There are quite a lot of
them Mongooses? Mongeese, there are quite a lot of Mongs running around the
parkland of Pigeon Island, quite cute looking, bigger than squirrels bit like a
water otter, but obviously not good swimmers!
Monday should bring our
pump, then we may go away for a few days to Martinique, we'll see how things go.
Some people say its nice, very French, street lights and European style
everything. So it's not really what we've come here to see, but then others say
it's very Caribbean with a French flavour. It's always best to check out
these place yourself. One persons paradise is another's backwater.
All for now, have to
pickle a membrane.
Jon and Kate are about
halfway but the wind has died.
