Finally the sea has calmed off, the wind too has eased, generally we've had
25kts + but today we have 15-20kts. Our posn at 1200 UTC today is
15.06.29N 46.28.89W
Considering our sail wardrobe I think we are doing quite well. Our boat
Chaser 2 ARC number is 176 so you can see positions and more info on www.worldcruising.com/arc
Today we'll catch up on a few jobs make some bread and water and chill in
the calmer waters for a while. It's been two weeks at sea tomorrow and we've
covered 2000 miles with about 750 miles to go.
Having a few luxuries on board that most house dwellers take for
granted is important to us. A good toilet, hot water, drinking water on tap, 220
volts are things, that many boats don't have. It's ok just for the
crossing you can make do, but we live on board all the time and we like a cold
beer from the fridge, or a shower when we want one, many boats barely carry
enough water for the trip, limiting whether they can brush their teeth or
not.
We've heard of a couple of the ARC boats having problems over the past days
and I'll fill in more details and photos of the trip once we settle in St
Lucia. A couple of boats have been didmasted, a couple have lost rudders, whales
can be a problem, one swam under our friends boat Waylander yesterday, but
didn't make contact. A whale strike could sink a boat quickly. I would like to
see one though, but not so close.
