We travelled east to the end of the Golf of Cariaco the next day,  we anchored off the village of Muelle de Cariaco and decided to do some dinghy exploration up the river. We had read about fish eating bats and the birds called Scarlet Ibis, so we jumped in the dinghy an hour or so before dusk to go up the river.

The trees growing from the swamps and mangroves look like John Wyndams 'Triffids' ready to walk of as soon as you turn your back. The Ibis's were flocking into the trees but soon flew off if we got too close. As darkness came the bats started flying up the river, it appeared as if they were going to fly straight into us, there were hundreds, but at the last minute they swerved and scooted to the side, trying to get a photo wasn't easy.

That evening back on board we caught a few more Sardine type fish and smoked them on the BBQ, with some garlic bread and a bottle of wine we had a great meal before turning in to watch a movie.

In any off the places we have visited in this part of Venezuela we have not felt worried about our security. The people have all been very friendly.

Tomorrow we head back to Medregal Village to find Jean Marc and pay our bill, take a final look around the area before heading back west to visit Margarita
