While in Prickly Bay we
heard on the VHF an angling boat call saying he or his party had caught a big
Marlin and was heading in to land it in Prickly Bay. We kept an eye open and
saw a motorboat enter the outer bay.So we jumped in our dinghy and motored
over to the dock. The fishing boat tied up and had aboard a large,
maybe 350lb Blue Marlin and it appeared, half the Australian Cricket team. So I
wasn't the only person with a camera, as you can imagine. Apart from the local
people in the adjacent bar, the newspaper gang and the TV were there too. I'm
sure they all had a good day, not least the skipper, who I guess was paid
well for his trip, but also called a local truck to cart off the fish to market.
The retail rate for Marlin is maybe 10EC$ per
pound!
