Some photos of a few new friends we've met recently during our travels in the Golf of Cariaco in Venezuela. Yes, we're still here in and around Medregal Village, the area has a charm of its own, its safe, quiet, the scenery and widelife are amazing. So many birds of such different species, Frigate birds, Pelicans, Hummingbirds and parrots, the beautiful Scarlet Ibis and much much more, of so many colours, haven't a clue what they're called, need to buy a book on Birds of Venezuela.

There are Anteaters and monkies that are often seen crossing the road though I haven''t seen them yet, you need to be around at the crack of dawn, which is about 5AM here and I'm not! We have a little business to carry out here, that's why we haven't left yet, but the more time we spend here the more we like it.

It's amazing how propaganda stops people coming, so many Cruisers come to Venezuela purely to escape the hurricanes of the Caribbean but don't bother to check the place out, they listen to and spread so much gossip without experiencing the places themselves. Everywhere here in the Golf of Cariaco is safe or certainly safer than any other Caribbean haunts, but people have this 'thing' fixed in their alledged brain that Venezuela is dangerous so don't go there. They are missing so much, of course there are one or two places to avoid as in any big country, so don't go THERE! but everywhere else give a try, you will not be disapointed.

I do understand the problem, we had this bug in our brain when we first arrived in Venezuela, we felt nervous though we had less reason to feel nervous than anywhere else we'd been, but it nagged. In Cuba we walked streets that were dirty and getto like, with kids and teenagers in the streets at midnight, we had no concern because the ' danger bug' hadn't been planted for Cuban cities. Now though, we have spent some considerable time in Venezuela and travelled to many parts and found pretty much everywhere we've been to be safe, beautiful and interesting.

So any Crusiers reading this, visit Venezuela, avoid the known troublespots of course, but checkout all the bays and anchorages in the Golf of Cariaco, Margarita too is ok, Puerto De La Cruz is a good place to visit but don't stay there, come and anchor in the Golf or Mochima, or Westwards to Caraballeda and Ocumare. I written much on my experiences in Venezuela in blogs and newspaper articles, so hopefully this will encourage others to visit and see the delights. It's not a place you can spend a couple of week in though, it's too big but if you spend a season here avoid the temptation of following the masses to Puerto De La Cruz, try anywhere but!

Of course if you speak Spanish it helps open more doors, but Venezuelan people are very friendly and inviting so even with little or no Spanish a good time will be had.

In the photos you see Swen loading his Pizza oven, his parrot Roberto that was given to him when it was only a few days old. Then Jean Marc with the 'Fez' during a party at his house, a photo of his daughter 'Januaria' with Yvonne and a group photo of us all including  Jean Marcs wife Yoleda, Swedish Kenneth and Swens wife/partner Eva (who wasn't looking down at the camera) Our doggy mate Mango, he looks like a boxer but is very big and strong and is actually a Boxer Rottwieler cross, lovely dog.

Next week we hope to go to Cumana for  night, not that we like the Marina there but its a convenient place to shop and stop en-route to Margarita. We need to check out a few prices and buy some bits and pieces for our new project.

Our travelling companions Chris and Tony aboard 'Waylander' will be back soon so we'll meet up hopefully back in the Golf. We can discuss each others projects, we both miss their company especially when there is so much going on to share. We'll have a lot to talk about before we then fly back to the UK and Spain for a long Christmas visit with the family.
