Here is a picture of us arriving at Las Palmas, it's a big commercial port,
with yacht harbours and marinas within it.
After our arrival we met up with our new friends Fritz and Chris, they were
our neighbours in Rubicon, they left for Las Palmas a week before us, so we
arranged to meet up for a drink and a bit of WiFi in Club Varadero.
We took a bus today to the southern end of the island, it's a lot different
down there, it was warmer too. We stopped at Playa Inglesa, a lovely beach
which opens out into massive sand dunes that go on forever. There's no road
across the dunes so I think it would be quite a walk to get to the sea. It's all
very touristy, as opposed to Las Palmas which is a working capital. All the
usual beach shops and Irish bars, McDonalds etc. so we jumped on
another bus to Puerto Mogan, a very pretty small fishing port and marina.
We had a walk around again looking for a book or newspaper shop. Anyone coming
here wanting to buy English boat magazines will be out of luck. Despite all
what happens here in the nautical world, there seem to be very few boat
magazines for sale, even Spanish ones. Haven't seen any English ones yet, apart
from an old Yachting World which is of little interest for our type of
sailing. After lunch $D as Chris Doyles guides would say, we returned to
Las Palmas.
It was a long day a lot of walking, I think next time we'll go into the
mountains
