Jamaica a place we never planned to visit, but we made a special effort to
return here after leaving Cuba because it is so beautiful. If anyone
reading this blog is thinking of bypassing Port Antonio, don't, it's the best.
It's safe, lush, the anchorage and marina is a picture and the people are so
You can see from the photos that we all had a good
time, and the scenery is breathtaking. The marina we are in is called Errol
Flynn marina, in Port Antonio, apparently years ago Errol visited Port Antonio
and described it as being more beautiful than a woman, and everyone knows his
reputation with women. He said it was a hidden jewel in the Caribbean, but
its amazing how it has remained that way, even now. It is largely unspoilt,
partly I suppose because its a 2 hour drive from the airport, so it tends to
keep tourists away.
Time went very quickly there and we did need to
leave to get back south before hurricane season. We did though have time to tour
a little around the Port Antonio area and to do a rafting trip which lasted 3
In the Marina we met another cruising couple Sharon
and Tony Matthews from East London/Essex although for the past twenty three
years they have lived in California prior to moving aboard their Beneteau 52 a
couple of years ago. They are a nice couple and no doubt some of the pictures
you see on this blog will include them as they are travelling to Puerto De La
Cruz with us.
We enjoyed our visit to Cuba, we had some good
times, but personally I think I could have spent more time in Jamaica than Cuba,
nevertheless we consider ourselves lucky we didn't miss it
The photos are of the grounds of the marina (look
carefully and you'll see Chaser) and the surrounding area, together with our
river rafting experience, that was cool though hot.
