We left at 09.20 for the relatively short hop to Portsmouth (ca 20 Nm – our log is not reading correctly) arriving at 12.15; we motor sailed the whole way with 3 reefs in the main and no genoa. Arriving in Portsmouth it was really windy – 35 kn plus, so we were grateful for the help of the boat boys (Edison) in getting us moored.
We stopped at Portsmouth purely to use it as a launch point for the trip to Guadaloupe – short hops are easier and more comfortable than full days – so we left the outboard secured to the rail, and used Edison to take us to customs to clear out, and then take us from the bar back to the boat.
