Friday morning – we are still in The Saintes.  We wanted to explore a little while we were here.  No cars, few taxis, the only transport seemed to be by hiring either electric bikes, scooters, or golf carts.  We didn’t  fancy m/c helmets in the heat so we had to wait until yesterday to get a golf cart – there are not many on the island and are much in demand.

We’ve spent the time looking around, including Napoleon Castle (contains lots of info about a sea battle between the French and English – a mischievous Frenchman told us the French won, but it was clear from what was there that the English were the victors!).  We have also visited a number of restaurants where the standard of food has been excellent.

One of the restaurants, Edouard’s La Saladerie is owned by a local artist http://www.leloftdedouard.com/en/ .  It has a handful of tables, is only open three days per week for lunch and once for dinner, so we were really lucky to get a seat without a booking (many were later turned away)

The moorings are secure, but two of the nights have been fairly rolly (but nothing like as rolly as Stacia).  One of our evening relaxations is to watch boats charge in to try to find a mooring (they are in great demand), fruitlessly tour around, then possibly anchor, only for the owner of the moorings to come out and tell them that no anchoring is allowed close in.

Tomorrow we plan to move on to Dominica.

Pictures of the moorings at Terre de Haut, Edouard’s restaurant, the Doctor’s house (looks like a ship, built in 1942 and donated to the town providing it is used by the doctor), and our buggy.
