Decided we needed to start making a move from this very tranquil spot and make our way through the Lefkas Canal. We had heard that the lifting bridge opens on the hour so we made a rough estimate of when we needed to leave to avoid either missing the opening time or having to wait too long in the shallow entrance with our anchor problem.
On our approach there were several boats waiting to go through and one seemed to be aground. There were people on board waving their arms hoping to catch someone's attention but the boats ahead of us were either blind or chose to ignore them! Well we felt sorry for them but were anxious that we wouldn't miss our timeslot as the bridge would only open for a short time. One of the guys pleaded with us to help and we felt we could not ignore them but told them that we couldn't get too close as the water was obviously quite shallow so one of them dived into the water with line in hand and started swimming towards our boat , with boat hook handy we were able to pick up the line from him and attach it to the stern of our boat and after a couple of engine blasts were able to dislodge them from the sand, they were so happy, jumping up and down and singing our praises etc.Pity I did not have the camera handy.Anyway we felt like really good Samaritans and also managed to get through the canal on time!
