Well at last we convinced ourselves that it was time to go so having said tara to all our relatives we planned for a 0700 departure which became a 0730 departure because the marinaro was eventually found over the road having breakfast instead of in his office with our key refund.
Barbara took Rafiki off her berth and we set off. We had many discussions regarding weather and all four websites that we use had promised smooth seas with a brisk breeze as we headed off. We motored out clear of the harbour entrance and put the sails up and in no time at all we were zipping along at 7 knots. We were entertained once again by the Dolphins but they wandered off as the sun disappeared behind a sheet of high cirrus cloud and doffed its halo. This to me meant ''watch out theres a depression about'and sure enough the wind direction changed and the strength went straight up to 27 knots with rising seas. We ended up once again with the wind on the nose and 2-3 meter waves in a confused sea. Nine hours it took us to get here. Wind acceleration zones around the Canaries are certainly all they're made up to be. If ever you are inclined to sail around these islands then be very wary of them.

yep. We left our mark in Santa Cruz......... Look us up.
