Having refuelled before leaving Gib we sailed out into the Straits slightly later than planned but within the 4hr window that was advised after HW. The tide was flowing with us so made passage a little easier. The seas were moderate to rough with south westerly winds. This stretch of water is quite fascinating with the differences in the salinity of the water of the Med and the Atlantic on meeting in the Straits causing a confused sea.We had about an hour of rough passage and after passing windy Tarrifa were glad to be clear and on our way.Tarrifa is apparently renowned for its windy weather and is the windiest point in Europe. It is therefore very popular with windsurfers and kitesurfers.
Wind died over night so we had to resume motor sailing.
Arose to a most pleasant warm North African morning.Very little wind so whole of the day spent with motors on! Sea state was slack and mirror like and we had several sightings of Whales.Late into the afternoon nearly collided with a turtle who was to all intense and purposes having an afternoon siesta. He  awoke with a start and literally turned turtle in the water, it really was a humorous site. Decided on 3hr watches overnight which will mean we will each have 6hrs off!!
