Anchored around 5.30pm and felt quite tired, there was a bit of a ‘chop’ on entering the bay and several boats where swinging around in the wind.Anchored in 5m of sand and weed and settled into holiday mode.

11th MAY

Oh! What a night!!

Having had quite a peaceful day and going ashore to pick up bread from the local baker, we decided to have an early night.

Around 11pm we were awaken to loud shouting, Mark moved swiftly out onto the deck, so swiftly that he forgot to get dressed!! The next thing I knew when I came up on deck all hell had let loose somehow we were parked alongside the local restaurant. What had happened was that our anchor had dragged with a sudden gusting of strong winds, luckily we had out quite a bit of chain and this actually stopped us from actually mounting the low harbour wall!!

I managed to give Mark a jacket and trews to cover his modesty and recovered the anchor so that we could motor back out into the bay.

Several other boats were also floundering and there was a bit of a melee with everyone trying to sort themselves out. It was a nightmare as it was also very cold and the rain was making vision difficult.

The guy at the restaurant was really sweet and actually apologised as if it was his fault and said one moment we were at anchor and the next we had moved so swiftly through the water that he didn’t have a chance to yell us a warning.

In retrospect it was quite funny we actually took Rafiki out to the restaurant and couldn’t have had a better seat!!! God knows what the diners thought about Marks nudity!!

The next morning we awoke to clear skies and a peaceful sea, this Mediterranean weather really is fickle. I dived to see if we had suffered any damage on our hull, rudder and keel luckily there was none just a couple of scratches on the keel which had scratched off the antifoul, we really were very , very lucky not to have sustained more damage.

Tonight we will keep a little more of an anchor watch and not get so complacent!!!
