1200 UTC 31:09.90S 13:45.13E Wind SSW3/4 SOG 5kts COG 305T Fairly windy and rolly overnight. Des Cason tells us the swell is caused by a deep low at 50S. According to our weather grib files the wind should be building to 20kts today. Des says 15kts max so we’ll see. The wind is from the SSW which means we can sail with both sails on a port tack. It is expected to come round to the south and then south east as the South Atlantic high comes across from west to east below us. At this point we will need to drop the mainsail and pole out the staysail to port with the genoa on starboard and run with the wind. Lat night Annie was thrown across the cockpit as the boat rolled and hit her head hard. Quite a worry and along with post Covid cough and fatigue is not a happy bunny. Another yacht Emilyluna with American Keith and daughter Emily on board left a little after us and has now overtaken. We’ve had a couple of chats on the radio and she may well reach St Helena a day or so ahead of us. |
