At this point I need to point out, for the benefit of my one or possibly two readers, that the Mailasail web site is being upgraded to a more contemporary and inspiring format. However, the fully functioning site appears to be work in progress and at this point it is not possible for members to log in and make amendments to posts. As a result you might think that something odd happened when we reached Fiji last year and we circumnavigated in the opposite direction a couple of times before resuming our journey. I suspect an error when posting the position when it changed from degrees west to degrees east but unfortunately I cannot log in to investigate and make any corrections. Similarly it looks like we recently shot up to a mid ocean position north of Papua New Guinea before heading down to the west coast of Australia again. That was definitely the result of entering a position north rather than south (of the equator).
Finally please note that Cape Flattery was actually before Lizard Island. All errors will be corrected as soon as it becomes possible to log in again.
Portland Roads is a settlement of 8 people but it’s claim to fame is its cafe. The settlement is on the 4x4 touring route up to Cape York and there is no shortage of passing trade as evidenced by the numerous trucks there when we went ashore.
