It’s felt like a slow passage but three and a half days is about right.
The wind has been variable in strength but resolutely from the south west for the last couple of days. This makes for slow going and the weather gribs are showing a four or five day passage. We are motoring in order to take the most direct and quickest route as we don’t wish to spend another night in these fickle doldrums.
We have had squalls with 30kts wind and torrential rain as well as flat calm and very little as predicted by the weather gribs.
The email went down yesterday. We were so pleased to have the Garmin InReach as an alternative. Also the sat phone was still working so we used this to call up Mailasail and get Helle to talk us through a reset procedure for the email. The first time we have ever used the sat phone other than for a couple of test calls!
We should be arriving at about 1500 BIOT time which is UTC plus 6. Not sure why they are an hour ahead of the Maldives. We look forward to lazing here for a week or so whilst keeping an eye out for a good weather window to get across to the Seychelles.
