Yesterday evening the wind died and stayed that way throughout the night and into this morning. The weather forecasts disagreed about whether the compression zone on the SE coast of India (where the wind funnels through between India and Sri Lanka) was collapsing. If it was then we were in for very light wind from the north west (not good for us). If it wasn’t then we were due some continued 10+kts wind from the NE (very good for us). So as we motored through the night and into the morning we were delighted to see the wind go round to the north east and slowly strengthen. As a result we have been romping along throughout the day under the cruising chute at around 7kts.
Incidentally we had to motor to get out of the wind shadow south of Sri Lanka because the NE wind, if it filled in, would be from further to the west. We keep our fingers crossed for some continued wind this evening.
