Derecktors completed all the work exactly on schedule for Friday 24, but we actually stayed overnight until Saturday morning as we had torrential, road flooding thunderstorms all day Thursday and Friday. The weather up here is SO changeable, 35deg one day 25deg and breezy the next and rain that makes a Tropical Downpour seem like a gentle shower.

We are really pleased with the work Derecktors have done, they have so much experience of building boats they really understand what needs to be done and their reputation is legendary up and down the East Coast. So if you are coming this way and you break your boat then give Gilbert Melo a call.

A special mention must go to our insurance company, Admiral Insurance, we really got the 4 R’s from them, Rates, Response, Repair and Repaid, we got the go ahead to repair in just a couple of days of summiting the quotes and we were able to use the yard of our choice, as it was one of their recommended shipyards. Really easy, not too many forms, and they understand boats and even the Caribbean yards where we haul out for the summer, so give Dave Andrew a call on 01722 424940 or his DDI on 01722416106 – tell him Suzie Too sent you

Once out of Mamaroneck the wind died and we motored across to Long Island and Oyster Bay to go and restock the wine cellar and meet up with friends Andrew and Celia on their Moody 54, Alice. They had suffered some boat damage to their pulpit and toe rail after they dragged anchor in Bermuda and hit another boat in an F8. We spent a couple of great evenings exchanging what to do’s and where to go’s as they have come up through Chesapeake, before fuelling up on a pontoon with DIESEL AND 22ft of water, in no wind and with no current !!
