Vibrant city of Iquique, former export port of
saltpeter, now an importer of used Japanese cars that get switched to left
steering (!) and sold through out South America. The mountains and cliffs
surrounding the town attract paragliding fans from all over the
world.
Yes, it is winter down here, we run the heater in
the boat for an hour in the morning to cut down humidity and chill. We dug into
the lockers for the winter gears and showed back the summer stuff. It is a
transition phase that is not fun but the reward will be the southern
fjords & Patagonia in December . We have another 700 miles to reach our
winter quarter: Coquimbo, Bahia Herradura de Guayacan and the yacht club. We
will leave the boat for an August visit home and return in September and
prepare the boat for the season South.

salpetre, maintenant importatrice de voitures japonaises, ou elles sont adaptees
ici avec un volant a gauche....et vendues a travers l’Amerique du sud. Les
montagnes et falaises aux alentours de la ville attractent les fans de parapente
du monde entier.
Oui, c’est l’hiver ici, et nous mettons le
chauffage 1 heure le matin pour retirer l’humidite et la fraicheur. Nous
avons sorti les vetements d’hiver et rentrer ceux de l’ete. C’est une transition
qui n’est pas plaisante mais qui nous rapproche de la beaute des fjords du
sud et de la Patagonie en Decembre . Nous avons encore 700 miles pour
atteindre notre quartier d’hiver : Coquimbo, Bahia Herradura de Guyacan et
le yacht club. Nous laisserons le bateau en Aout, pendant notre retour a la
maison et reviendrons en Septembre pour preparer le bateau pour la saison Sud.

Les maisons etaient construites avec du pin d’Oregon, laisse
par les anciens bateaux US qui chargeaient le salpetre.
