A typical day running South with the
proper forecast (meaning no wind) is like going North up the waterway en
route to Maine, early spring ( North hemisphere)
Wake up at 5 am, get a cup of coffee then jump on
the internet (if available) for an hour, wake up Annick at 6 . We pull the
anchor up at 7, call Patache Port Control to let them know that we
are on our way. They answer back asking our ETA to Tocopilla 75 miles south. We
reply at 5.45 pm....Then we leave the very rolly anchorage to a more organized
South Pacific swell. At 9 am water is hot enough for a shower, 9.30
snack. 10 am a fishing line is in the water meanwhile the engine is purring at
2200 rpm with a boat speed of 7 kn on the bottom . As we watched the shoreline
thru the mist on port at about 3 miles, we prepare for the next leg or visit by
reading thru guides, charts or dictionary. Noon, lunch is served generally a
soup as outside temp is 55F and 66F in the cockpit with the enclosure. The sun
is out, slowly clearing up the sky, winds are from SE at 7 kn. Every hour or so
, I will check on the engine ( stuffing box, coolant and Raccor fuel filter) and
the bilge sump. 3pm another snack 4pm fishing line is out, we do not have
the right stuff for here. 5pm , I call Tocopilla and they give me Lat and Long
for our anchorage....!! 6pm anchor is down in 57 ft of water (total
chain180’ ) rocky bottom. 6.30 pm Happy
hours....Tomorrow will be another day going South. The weather looks great all
the week to go south with very light winds and an easy swell.
En route pour le sud dans de bonnes conditions
meteo ( pas de vent car venant toujours du sud), c’est comme remonter les
waterways americains au printemps. Lever a 5am, je surf le net un café a la main
pendant une heure ( si connection) .Je reveille Annick a 6hr. Nous relevons
l’ancre a 7h. Appel Patache port Control pour leur dire que l’on s’en va,
ils nous demandent l’heure d’arrivee a Tocopilla, 75miles sud... je leurs
reponds a 5.45pm...Nous quittons ce mouillage rouleur pour la houle mieux
organisee du pacifique sud. A 9hr l’eau rechauffee par le moteur est
suffisamment chaude pour les douches. 9.30 snack. 10hr nous mettons une
ligne de peche a l’eau pendant que le moteur ronronne at 2000 rpm pour une
vitesse de 7 nd sur le fond.Pendant que la cote defile a babord dans la brume,
nous preparons soit la prochaine etape ou prochaine excursion a terre en lisant
guides, cartes et dictionnaire. Midi ce sera generalement une soupe car il fait
frisquet. Apres dissipation des brumes matinales ( comme ils disent) le soleil
se montre, vent du SE 7nd. Toutes les heures je verifie le moteur ( presse
etoupe, antigel,filtre a Gasoil) et la cale. 3pm un autre snack. 4pm on
rentre la ligne de peche, nous n’ avons pas les bons leurres. 5pm J’appelle
Tocopilla et ils me donnent la latitude et longitude de mon mouillage pour la
nuit....6pm l’ancre est par 17m de fond rocheux, (total chaine 60m) 6.30 pm
Happy hours. Demain sera une autre journee sur la route sud. La meteo est
clemente pour toute la semaine avec vent leger et peu de houle.
