We have found a mooring at the rather uniquely small Bora Bora yacht club. The island is quite breathtaking with a dramatic mountain, more a volcanic spire, in the middle and a broad and colorful fringing reef. The water is clarity plus and the fish are everywhere. Today I've provisioned and fueled up and even topped off the water tanks. All that's left is a visit to the gendarmes on Monday morning to check out. Must say I'm keen to get going. I'm over half way and this feels like the start of the end. The sail here has also encouraged me to get back out there and enjoy. The sail from Huahine was done in what is called rather delightfully, a spanking breeze, no spanking took place but we broad reached at nine and picked up the occasional wave. Very civilized. Before we left Raiatea we went up to it's sister island of Tahaa and ended up in the little town of Patio. Great name and a pleasant town apparently very famous for it's vanilla. They claim it to be the very best but unfortunately this guy wouldn't know good from bad so it was lost on me. Tomorrow, Sunday, will be a bit of r and r as everything seems in order. Hopefully have a swim on the reef and a bit of a look round prior to that final nervous night while I go through everything in my head. What have I overlooked? I'm sure several things but at least I have some time to think about them. An ocean passage sharpens your focus. There is a lot to think about and plenty that could go wrong so I always manage to run several lists that I manage to lose regularly. Basically I bumble through. Sent from my iPad |
