Today Raoul (my new best friend) took me to Papeete where I finished up some issues regarding repairs and arranged the hire car for tomorrow's tour. A lot don't like Papeete. I find I do. Groups of old men sit and play music and sing or have long arguments with restrained passion. Large women bustling about very importantly and gorgeous young things flirting innocently with the world. Flowers are compulsory wearing and the clothes are best described as megaphone loud. There is no volume control on a Polynesian shirt. Naturally I have to get a selection to embarrass those nearest and dearest.
Having a local guide is just great. I met the local gendarme who is an ex boxing champion and still looked like a potent man. Went down alleys and shortcuts that you wouldn't dream of going down all the while saying hello to friends of Raouls. Progress was slow but a lot of fun.
