It's the tranquility, just feel the tranquility.
(the Castle)
Yesterday afternoon was the type of afternoons'
sailing that makes those who don't get it (sailing that is) get it. Beautiful 15
kt breeze over gentle seas, boat flying along, no noise but the quiet whoosh of
water running past the hull and plenty of natural grandeur to see. In order to
really see how grand it is out here a 360 panoramic shot would be needed. At
dawn or dusk the entire sky takes on the morning colours and as there are so
many alto cumulus scattered around with black streaks of rain underneath their
skirts, and the remainder of the sky absolutely clear the effects can be
dramatic. Unfortunately through a camera lens only one section can be seen so
the image is of a rather normal raincloud. Never mind, you'll just have to
do it to find out what its like.
Another thing thats a must try is Stu's equatorial
foot massage. Farr Gone has a fold down transom that serves as a bathing
platform. If you sit on this and dangle your feet in the incredibly clear water
when the boat is doing 2 to 3 knots all sorts of aches and pains are washed
away. I stupidly fell on the dock, the day before I left. Dropped a potato and
then slipped on it. My ankle had been sore until I tried this and the results
were just like the tv ads. Full satisfaction or your money back! No it feels
terrific and its very pleasurable while its being done. And I'm still getting
used to the colour and clarity of the water.
I wrote yesterday that I was off in search of a
boat wash (storm cloud). I tried for a couple of hours but each time I got close
to one it got turned off so I gave up in disgust and went and had a nap.
45mins later I awoke to a spotless boat. What the?
The equator is around 230 nm from here so I may
make it there tomorrow evening if the breeze keeps up. Hopefully a daylight
crossing.
