                | 42 48.9N  010 19.8E On Monday we motored around the East side of the
Island (Mainland Italy being in full view now some 5/10 miles away) to the
capital of Elba, PortoFerraio - Napolean's place of exile. We have moored
up against the old town quay for a couple of days so we can do some
sightseeing. Today we climbed the hill in town to find
Napolean's town house  - which while not grand had a superb view out to sea
and the Italian coast. We then found the local bus to take us inland to
Napolean's country resident high on the hillside again had a great view of the
town and sea in the distance. Unfortunately the house is fairly bare - someone
seems to have 'nicked' most of it. The weather is a bit unsettled at present - it
rained quite hard last night, but hasn't been to bad today. We may stay a few
more days as there are fairly strong winds around the Med for a day or two
(albeit not here) before heading to the main land and North - just in case we
get caught out. Pictures; PortoFerraio Napoleans town house The town behind the Port Napolean's country house Napolean!?? |
