The weather seems
(touch wood) to be settling - so we pushed on North about 60 miles today (the
Mid part of the Corsican East coast isn't that exciting, mainly long sandy
beaches) to Bastia. The wind was on the nose but happily very light so we were
able to motor fast. It is the first time for weeks that we haven't been able to
sail at least part of the day.
Just before reaching
Bastia we had a sudden vibration from the Propeller - bringing back memories of
the rope that got stuck around the Prop. last year in Barcelona. Having
throttled back and then gently trying reverse off we went again and all seems OK
now (fingers crossed). I hope it was no more than a plastic bag or small piece
of rope that has cleared itself.
Speaking to some
French boats, some having been sitting in Port 8 days waiting for the weather to
settle.
Bastia is rather
like the other towns on the Island - On the hill with an attractive old
Citadelle. After a relatively long day yesterday we are having a day around town
and re-stocking - the first decent supermarket on the Island. The
individual shops are expensive. The nice thing though is that all the
fruit and veg., even in the supermarkets are locally grown, therefore, no green
tomatoes, no hard nectarines and lovely ripe apricots.
