Having enjoyed a lovely day in Cala Portal, the
night wasn't so good - the wind swung NE and picked up to 17/18knots sending
swell straight into the Cala. About 1.30am the anchor alarm went off, so up we
got and moved ourselves to the sheltered side of the Cala along with two other
boats that had also presumably suffered dragging anchors. It didn't leave us
much room and left us rather close to the shore. The wind and waves shifted
again, leaving us no better than before, so we decided to do some anchor
watches - After a couple of hours we hadn't shifted so decided to
retire.
Having had a disturbed sleep we left quite late,
aiming across the Bay of Palma and up the SE coast - we found ourselves
soon punching into 17kts of wind and a very choppy sea so progress wasn't
quick. We ended up at Playa de Trench which was a huge sandy bay in the lee of
the wind. There were many mega yachts and Spainish boats anchored
for the weekend. After the experience of the night before we were grateful
when the wind dropped and we had a peaceful night sleep.
The sunset was fantastic as we finished our dinner
and digestives.
