Well as planned we set off for Menorca early this
morning. We decided to go to the nearest port on the west side of
Menorca - some 40 miles - even though it potentially hadn't much room for
visitors. The fall back being another Cala on the SW coast or
Mahon.
All went well and we arrived at 2.00pm to find that
the port authorities had converted one of the small Calas in the port into
a fairly rough and ready visitors harbour (not in the pilot book). Whilst there
was no one to greet us or answer the radio (it being lunch time) we tied up and
finally the powers that be turned up to take some money once siesta was over -
relatively cheap for this part of the world.
The port / town is very pleasant with some
very smart boutiques. It is actually one of the few places we have been to
in the Balearics before, about twenty years ago. We did indeed remember
some of it.
We may well spend another day here and move on to
Mahon on Monday. Sunday is not a good day to sort out a new mooring with the
Spanish & they are even more laid back here.
