Well, we are now safely moored up in Almerimar. We
left es Palmador heading for Cartegena and had a good trip, motoring for several
hours but then the light Easterly kicked in as promised and we had some good
sailing, yesterday morning around 0700 we were 20 miles off Cartegena and I put
it to the motley crew that we could carry straight on for Almerimar, after some
mutinous growling I got agreement and we sailed on for about 3 or 4 hours before
we lost the wind, we motored over a surprisingly lumpy and rolly sea for 4 or 5
hours in zero wind before a North easterly gave us a helping hand and we sailed
the remaining distance to Almerimar, the last 30 miles with a gale force 8 up
our bottom, 10 knots with just the genoa, big smiles all round, how lovely to
finish this trip on a high, we have had so many frustrations and contrary winds,
it was a real pleasure to see P3 at her best. We had a bit of drama mooring up,
it was dark, the gale force 8 was in full force, the marineros spoke little
English, we tied alongside to the end of a jetty at first but the cleats were
straining to the point of making the deck vibrate, the marinero zoomed me down
to a permanent stern to mooring on his scooter and we plumped for that. It was
surprisingly trouble free getting in to the tight spot, the wind was straight
onto the stern as we reversed in and all was done with a minimum of fuss, ably
assisted by our skillful crew! This morning, gale still blowing, boat on the
market with Yes Yachting, booking flight home for Tuesday,
hopefully.
