Heavy day, left Italy at 0730 this am and motored
through Messina Straits, and along the North coast of Sicily, wind and current
against us, we struggled to make 5.5 knots and planned a night on anchor east of
Cap D'Orlando, gale warning had us scuttling for nearest marina which turns out
to be almost empty and no laid moorings and apparently no staff, we are now tied
alongside a pontoon, no services but so far nobody has sent us packing so we
hope we are ok for the night, another 60 miles to go tomorrow to Palermo where
we hope for a couple of nights and a day off to pick up crew, Arthur, before
making our way to Sardinia. Got caught by the local Mr Fixit last night,
Saveiro, tucked us up for 12 bottles of wine about 3 kilos of cheese and a large
bit of Palma ham, paid too much but he was a nice guy!!
