We had a peaceful, and free, night at the deserted
marina at Cap D'Orlando and got off around 0630 for the final 65 mile trudge to
Palermo, this is sure turning out to be a delivery trip, still enjoyable, but
quite hard work, the wind blew steadily from the West all day and got up to
around force 4, enough to form smallish waves and to hold back our speed, this,
together with the 1 knot West going current really gave us a frustrating day,
however, the wind veered and backed a few degrees as the day wore on and we were
able to motor sail a bit which helped our speed, we finally arrived at Palermo
at 1830, a 12 hour ride, to find no berths available in the yacht club, which is
in the main commercial port, we then went to Marine Villa Iglea, which is to the
North of the Town, not so convenmient, and, according to the pilot book, mega
expensive, however, we had no choice, we were slotted in to a tight space here
and told to go to the office in the morning to check in. It is now 0840 and I
have been to the office, about 1/4 mile away, only to be told it does't open
until 0900! We shall go back on our way out and find the market and supermarket
and get stocked up with supplies for the next few days, we are picking up Arthur
from the airport this afternoon and planning to leave for Sardinia tomorrow
after breakfast and refueling. Weather fine, bit cold in the wind yesterday but
dawned bright and sunny today, forecast is ok for our trip tomorrow, light and
variable winds, so it looks like another 40 hours of engine!! Having fun
really.
